Shorter Days & Longer Nights – Baby’s Sleep Routine
As the longer nights settle in for winter, and the children have gotten into the swing of the school year once more, it can be difficult to establish a bedtime routine for baby with the flurry of excitement as the holidays approach and the shorter days stretch out in front of us. So with the flexibility of summer meal and bath times a thing of the past, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite bedtime products to help establish a regular sleep routine for baby with just a hint of fun.
Temperature
As we switch on the central heating there is no doubting that the longer, colder nights have arrived, but getting the temperature just right isn’t such an easy task, on one hand we can overheat baby’s room and on the other leave it too chilly. Either way, it doesn’t support a good night’s sleep for your little one, so why not place the gentle glow of the Gro-egg in baby’s room which will tell you at a glance whether the temperature of the room is too warm (red glow), too cold (blue glow) or just right (yellow glow). This enables you to then alter the room temperature or change baby’s clothing or bedding to keep them snug and warm.
Bedding
Throughout the summer months, the luxury of not being swathed in duvets is often short lived, as the shorter days and longer months settle in, it becomes time for the heavy duvets and heating. If your little one has passed summer with a Grobag Baby Sleep Bag you may need to switch to a higher tog (European warmth rating) as the nights get colder. Grobags are designed to replace the need for layers with blankets and sheets, so we recommend a 2.5 tog Grobag for standard room temperatures of 16-20°C or a 3.5 tog Grobag for colder room temperatures of 12-15°C. As babies are different always be sure to check your baby regularly to make sure she is not too hot or too cold.
Light
The advantage of the longer darker evenings means that toddlers are less likely to be confused as to when it’s bedtime versus playtime. However, once your little one is asleep there is no need to wake them as you go in to check on them with the Gro-light. Fitting neatly into a normal overhead light or bedside lamp, it emits a gentle LED night light which is easily operated by a mere flick of the switch. The Gro-light is also ideal for the upstairs landing and for unscheduled nighttime visits to the bathroom that won’t wake the entire household
At Inhealth.ie we are proud stockists of a comprehensive range of sleep solutions from the award winning Gro Company. All designed to enhance and support healthy, peaceful and safe sleep for your little one and peace of mind and reassurance for you.
